IMPORTANT UPDATE ON
THE 58TH ANNUAL AEASA CONFERENCE
Date: 25 May 2020
Dear AEASA member
Since the publication of AEASA newsletter in April, the Covid -19 pandemic has further accelerated in terms of intensity and expanded both its global and South African reach. In the newsletter, the management committee (MANCOM) of AEASA communicated the difficulty of continuing business as usual under that climate. The infection rates in the country are now much higher two months ago, and predicted to peak in the next few months, whilst the government phased approach to managing the pandemic prohibits conference gatherings until level 1. Consequently, some decisions about future activities had to be taken in the same context.
Future activities and events of AEASA were discussed, and MANCOM decided to:
- Cancel the 2020 AEASA annual conference that was to be held in Limpopo, Phalaborwa from 28 – 30 September 2020. For the first time since 1961, there will be no annual conference within a calendar year.
- Retract the call for papers that were due to be presented at the conference
- Extend the postponement of the Tomlinson Commemorative Lecture beyond the 2020 year. The future date will also be announced when planning happens in less uncertain periods.
- Initiate virtual activities that will take place in the coming few months to allow association members a chance for continued engagement and interaction.
MANCOM will communicate further about upcoming AEASA activities. Please check our website and social media accounts as those are also channels of our communication.
Stay safe and best wishes,
On behalf of AEASA management committee,
AEASA President,
Dr M Kalaba
